The new functionality became possible thanks to the integration of Google DeepMind’s Veo model, which creates 1080p videos in various cinematic styles. To use the tool, go to the Shorts camera, select “green screen,” and tap “Dream Screen.” Then, you can enter a prompt, such as “candy landscape” or “magical forest with a stream,” choose an animation style, and click “Create.”
The tool will generate a series of video backgrounds from which the user can select the desired option and use it in their clip. YouTube notes that this feature will be useful for creating intros for Shorts or immersing viewers in the world of a favorite book.
YouTube also plans to introduce the ability to create six-second standalone videos via Dream Screen. The feature is currently available in the US, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.
