YouTube has started implementing a new feature for Partner Program participants to help find and report unauthorized videos using the author’s face, created with AI. After identity verification, authors can view videos flagged by the system in the “Content Detection” tab in YouTube Studio. If a video contains their face and appears to be created or altered by AI without permission, the author can request its removal.
Early users received email notifications, and over the coming months, the feature will become available to a wider range of creators. YouTube warns that in the early stages, the feature may also detect regular videos with the author’s real face, not just AI-generated or altered ones.
The feature works similarly to “Content ID,” which is already used to detect copyrighted videos and audio. Initial tests of this capability began last December with the involvement of the Creative Artists Agency.
In addition to the tool for detecting videos using faces, YouTube has mandated that authors label all videos containing content created or altered by AI. There is also a separate policy for music that mimics a performer’s unique voice using AI.
