YouTube is testing a new tool for content creators that allows the use of AI to “restyle” licensed songs in short videos. A selected group of creators can already enter prompts to change various elements of a song, such as mood or genre, and the Dream Track AI feature will generate a reworked 30-second soundtrack.
Creators participating in the experiment can choose an available song, describe how they want it to be reworked, and receive a unique 30-second soundtrack to use in Shorts. YouTube notes that these reworked soundtracks will have a clear link to the original song through the short itself and the Shorts audio page, and will be clearly marked as tracks modified with AI.
If you want to give a song a different genre or mood, simply enter your vision in the Restyle a track prompt, and you’ll get a customized soundtrack that reimagines the music while preserving the essence of the original vocals and lyrics.
The Dream Track feature, launched last year, uses the Lyria music generation model developed by Deepmind. YouTube has already partnered with Universal Music Group to develop a compensation framework for artists and rights holders for the use of their work in AI features. This testing opens up new creative possibilities, allowing creators to experiment with music in new formats.
