Elon Musk’s startup xAI announced the launch of an API for its AI model Grok. The new interface enables Grok to connect to external tools such as databases and search engines. Additionally, the documentation mentions upcoming capabilities for text and image analysis, although these features are not yet active.
Musk founded xAI last year, and the company has already sparked considerable discussion. After the release of the first version of Grok on the X platform, available to Premium+ subscribers for $16 per month, it became clear that the model takes an unconventional approach to answers. Grok is willing to respond to questions that most other AI systems avoid. “It has a rebellious spirit,” Musk notes.
Grok is gradually being integrated into the X ecosystem, generating images via the Flux generator and providing users with news and event summarization features, though not without errors. Recent changes to X’s privacy policy allow user posts to be used for training xAI’s models.
Despite successfully raising $6 billion in investments, xAI faces challenges, particularly due to Musk’s controversial plans to train models on data from Tesla and his other companies. This has drawn criticism from Tesla shareholders, who have filed lawsuits claiming Musk is diverting resources in favor of xAI.
