The social network X plans to open access to its AI chatbot Grok for free users. Currently, Grok, created by Elon Musk’s xAI company, is available only to paid premium users. However, according to several researchers and users, the free version of the chatbot will become available in certain regions.
TechCrunch confirmed that the X platform is testing access to Grok for free users in New Zealand. Currently, there are usage limits: 10 queries every two hours with the Grok-2 model, 20 queries with the Grok-2 mini-model, and three image analysis queries per day. To use Grok for free, an account must be at least seven days old and have a linked phone number.
By opening Grok to free users, xAI may be aiming to attract a wider audience and receive faster feedback to improve its products. This could help the company compete with other models on the market, such as ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini.
