The platform X, owned by Elon Musk, announced the launch of testing a feature that allows AI chatbots to create “Community Notes.” These notes add context or corrections to user posts, including fact-checking and links to additional information. The aim of the innovation is to reduce misinformation on the platform.
The new feature will be tested for several weeks. If the results prove effective, AI-generated notes will become available to a wider range of users. Notes can be created using both X’s own chatbot Grok and third-party AIs via API.
Each AI note will undergo the same review as notes written by humans. The final decision on publishing the note will remain with users participating in the fact-checking program. A note will appear under a post only after it is deemed useful by representatives from different groups with opposing views.
X researchers emphasized that collaboration between humans and large language models can improve the quality of notes. Human verification will remain mandatory before publication to avoid errors and inaccuracies from AI.
