Spotify announced an update to the “DJ” feature, which operates based on generative AI. Now users can control music using voice commands—asking the “DJ” to change the playlist mood, select a specific genre, or play tracks by a particular artist. The update is already available for premium users in more than sixty countries, but currently only supports the English language.
To take advantage of the new features, users need to find “DJ” through the search in the Spotify app and hold the “DJ” button in the bottom right corner, after which they can give a voice command. For example, they can ask to “play electronic music for a run” or “surprise with new indie tracks.” This allows personalizing the music experience according to the user’s mood or activity.
Previously, the “DJ” feature only automatically selected music, adding comments between tracks, without the ability to influence song choices. Now users have more control, as they can choose not only the mood but also genres or artists, and combine different requests in their queries.
Additionally, Spotify updated the interface for premium users—now it’s easier to find features like track shuffling, sleep timer, and queue settings on the playback screen. Playlists can be sorted by name, artist, album, or date added, and users can edit the cover and order of compositions directly in the mobile app.
