The SoundCloud platform has updated its terms of use, adding a clause that allows user-uploaded audio content to be used for the training, development, and support of artificial intelligence technologies. These changes came into effect in February this year and apply only to content not protected by separate agreements with rights holders, such as major music labels or independent publishers.
SoundCloud seems to claim the right to train on people's uploaded music in their terms. I think they have major questions to answer over this.

I checked the wayback machine – it seems to have been added to their terms on 12th Feb 2024. I'm a SoundCloud user and I can't see any… pic.twitter.com/NIk7TP7K3C
The updated terms stipulate that audio files may be used to improve recommendations, organize content, detect fraud, and enhance work identification systems using AI. SoundCloud representatives emphasize that the company does not develop its own generative models and does not grant third parties the right to use platform content for training such models. There are also technical restrictions, including a special “no AI” tag that prohibits unauthorized use of materials for AI training.
Among the new features enabled by AI on the platform are personalized music recommendations, automatic playlist creation, and tools for organizing audio content.
SoundCloud assures that all actions regarding AI implementation comply with current licensing agreements and ethical standards. According to the company, creators retain control over their works, and the community will be informed of all changes in a timely manner.
