Pinterest has announced the launch of new features for its visual search, which now allows users to find products by images instead of text queries. The update, already available in the US, Canada, and the UK for the women’s fashion category, is based on generative AI, specifically utilizing a visual language model.
Now, when selecting a specific pin, users will see an animated highlight, after which Pinterest will suggest a series of words to help identify what exactly drew attention to the image. Thus, even if it’s difficult to describe the desired style or vibe in words, the new feature helps users better understand their own preferences and find similar products.
Additionally, the update enables users to refine search results — for example, to find alternatives to a selected item in a different color, style, or fabric. This makes it possible to choose options that better suit a specific occasion, whether it’s a business meeting or a casual look.
