Opera has introduced a new AI agent called Browser Operator, which can perform tasks across various websites. In the demo video, the AI finds a pair of socks on Walmart, books tickets for a football match on a club’s website, and searches for a flight and hotel for a trip on Booking.com. Opera plans to make this feature available to users soon through its Feature Drop program.
A key feature of Browser Operator is that users can see what the agent is doing and take control at any moment. The company also emphasizes the agent’s enhanced security, as it operates directly on the device rather than in the cloud or a browser virtual machine.
Competition in this field is becoming increasingly fierce. OpenAI has already introduced its Operator agent for ChatGPT Pro users, and The Browser Company has announced a new browser, Dia, with agent capabilities. In addition, Perplexity is preparing to launch its own browser called Comet.
Opera’s new agent is attracting attention for its ability to perform specific tasks across different platforms, making web surfing even more convenient and fast. This is another step towards integrating AI into users’ everyday lives.
