OpenAI is preparing to launch its next flagship AI model called Orion by December this year, reports The Verge. However, unlike previous releases, OpenAI will not deploy Orion in ChatGPT, but will instead provide access to affiliated partners for integration into their own products. Engineers at Microsoft, OpenAI’s main partner, are already preparing to launch Orion on the Azure platform.
The new AI is designed as the successor to GPT-4, although it is unknown whether it will be labeled GPT-5. According to the source, Orion could turn out to be 100 times more powerful than GPT-4.
It was previously reported that OpenAI used the o1 model to prepare the data needed to train Orion. The completion of training was celebrated back in September, when OpenAI CEO Sam Altman made a cryptic post on social media, hinting at the imminent release of Orion.
