OpenAI is preparing for new launches that promise to be major events in the world of generative AI. The company plans to introduce both o3 and its successor o4-mini in just a few weeks. This move is related to the upcoming release of GPT-5, as announced by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman in his post on the X platform.
change of plans: we are going to release o3 and o4-mini after all, probably in a couple of weeks, and then do GPT-5 in a few months.

there are a bunch of reasons for this, but the most exciting one is that we are going to be able to make GPT-5 much better than we originally…
Altman noted that integrating all the features turned out to be more complex than expected, so the company wants to ensure it has enough capacity to support the anticipated high demand. At the same time, OpenAI plans to release GPT-5 in a few months, which is later than initially planned. This model promises to be significantly improved and capable of performing a wide range of tasks.
ChatGPT Plus users will be able to use GPT-5 at a “higher level of intelligence,” while ChatGPT Pro subscribers will have access to an “even higher level of intelligence.” GPT-5 will include voice input, search, deep research capabilities, and much more, embodying OpenAI’s goal to unify its models for maximum usefulness.
OpenAI is also facing pressure from competitors such as the Chinese lab DeepSeek, which has chosen an open approach to model launches. In addition to o3 and o4-mini, OpenAI plans to introduce its first open language model since GPT-2, which will feature reasoning capabilities and undergo additional safety evaluations.
