OpenAI is working on creating AI systems that can solve complex tasks over many hours or even days. Chief scientist Jakub Pachocki and researcher Szymon Sidor discussed in the company’s podcast the development of such models capable of planning, reasoning, and conducting experiments over extended periods.
OpenAI’s mathematical and software models have already received top awards at olympiads in their fields. These achievements demonstrate the initial results of a new approach to long-term AI work.
The goal is to automate parts of scientific research, particularly in finding new ideas in medicine or enhancing AI safety. New capabilities allow models to independently find solutions that previously required human involvement.
Implementing such solutions requires significantly more computational power than most users currently have access to. Sam Altman has expressed readiness to invest substantial funds in developing data centers in the coming years.
