OpenAI plans to integrate its AI-powered video generation tool Sora directly into the popular chatbot ChatGPT. Currently, Sora is only available through a separate web application launched in December, which allows users to create up to twenty-second cinematic clips. However, the company is considering expanding Sora’s functionality and integrating it into other platforms.
OpenAI initially targeted Sora at creative professionals and video production studios, but now aims to make the tool available to a broader audience. Company representative Rohan Sakhai noted that OpenAI is actively working to make Sora available in ChatGPT, although no exact timeline has been announced yet. Integrating Sora into ChatGPT could encourage users to switch to premium subscriptions, which may offer higher video generation limits.
One of the reasons for launching Sora as a standalone web app was the need to keep ChatGPT simple. Since its launch, OpenAI has expanded Sora’s capabilities, providing more ways to view videos created by the community. The company is also considering developing a separate mobile app for Sora and is actively seeking mobile engineers for this purpose.
Additionally, OpenAI is working on an image generator based on Sora. While image generation is already supported in ChatGPT thanks to the DALL-E 3 model, a Sora-based image generator could allow users to create even more photorealistic images.
