OpenAI announced the implementation of GPT-4.1 and GPT-4.1 mini models in ChatGPT. According to the company, GPT-4.1 is now available for ChatGPT Plus, Pro, and Team subscribers, while GPT-4.1 mini is available for everyone, regardless of subscription. With the update, GPT-4.1 mini replaces the previous GPT-4.0 mini, which will no longer be available in ChatGPT.
By popular request, GPT-4.1 will be available directly in ChatGPT starting today.

GPT-4.1 is a specialized model that excels at coding tasks & instruction following. Because it’s faster, it’s a great alternative to OpenAI o3 & o4-mini for everyday coding needs.
The GPT-4.1 model is noted for its improved ability to write and correct code, as well as better instruction following compared to previous versions. It operates faster than previous models in the o series, which should be beneficial for software developers and users who actively work with code.
The new feature does not change the ways users interact with ChatGPT but allows for faster and more efficient text generation, especially for programming-related tasks. The implementation of GPT-4.1 mini in the free version opens these possibilities to a wider audience.
OpenAI also announced the launch of a new “Safety Evaluations Hub,” where the results of internal safety assessments of AI models will be published. The company plans to make these reports available more frequently to increase transparency in the operation of its models.
