OpenAI has launched a new beta feature for ChatGPT called Tasks, which allows the chatbot to perform scheduled actions and reminders. This feature is available starting January 14, 2025, for users subscribed to the Plus, Pro, and Teams plans. Tasks enables users to schedule one-time or recurring actions, such as daily weather updates, weekly news briefings, or reminders about personal events.

To use the feature, users need to select the “4o with scheduled tasks” option in the model and provide instructions in natural language. Tasks can be managed through a dedicated section in the ChatGPT web interface or directly within chats. After tasks are executed, notifications are sent on web, desktop, and mobile platforms. However, during the beta phase, task management is limited to the web interface, and users can have up to ten active tasks at the same time.
The launch of Tasks is an important step in transforming ChatGPT from a reactive communication tool into a more comprehensive AI assistant capable of autonomously performing scheduled actions. OpenAI is using this beta phase to gather feedback and improve the feature before expanding it to all ChatGPT users, including those on free plans.
This feature positions ChatGPT as a proactive digital assistant, comparable to tools like Siri or Alexa, but leveraging OpenAI’s advanced language processing capabilities. At the same time, OpenAI continues to work on more sophisticated agent systems that could provide even greater autonomy and functionality in the future.
