OpenAI is testing a new way to customize interactions with ChatGPT. Users can now specify their name or nickname, profession, and other details they would like ChatGPT to know about them. In addition, users can choose traits they want the chatbot to have, such as “Talkative,” “Supportive,” or “Generation Z.”
These changes are not related to the ChatGPT memory feature, which allows users to explicitly specify what the chatbot should remember or forget. The new menu is likely more of an aesthetic update than a deep technical improvement, as it still uses prompt engineering to customize ChatGPT’s style and tone.
However, it appears this is still a test feature, as many users who first noticed these options now report their disappearance.
