OpenAI announced plans to ease restrictions for ChatGPT, allowing users to customize the tone and style of responses, as well as opening access to erotic conversations for verified adults. CEO Sam Altman stated that the company will implement these changes in December when a new age verification system is introduced. According to OpenAI, this will enable adult users to independently choose the level of openness and nature of interaction with AI.
The updated version of ChatGPT will allow customization of the assistant’s personality, including making responses more “human,” emotional, or friendly. Additionally, users will be able to choose a style with frequent use of emojis or behavior reminiscent of chatting with a friend. For teenagers and children, OpenAI has already created a separate mode that automatically blocks access to adult or explicit content.
OpenAI is implementing age prediction technology that analyzes user behavior in the chat to determine if they are 18 years old. If the system mistakenly determines the age, adult users will be able to confirm it by uploading a photo of an official document. This, according to the company, will help avoid minors accessing restricted features while not limiting adults.
In recent months, OpenAI has introduced a number of safety measures for ChatGPT, including automatic switching to a stricter model when attempting conversations on emotional or sensitive topics. The company has also created an expert mental health advisory board that provides guidance on complex situations and the impact of AI on users.
The introduction of new features and easing of restrictions are happening amid competition with other chatbot developers and OpenAI’s desire to increase the number of users. Currently, ChatGPT has about 800 million active users weekly and continues to evolve, offering more opportunities for personalized interaction with AI.
