OpenAI introduced the ChatGPT Atlas browser with AI support, now available for macOS users worldwide. The company plans to release versions for Windows, iOS, and Android soon. ChatGPT Atlas is based on Chromium and offers familiar features such as tabs, bookmarks, extensions, and incognito mode, but adds the ability to integrate ChatGPT into any webpage.
The main feature of Atlas is the sidebar with ChatGPT, which allows users to interact with AI directly while browsing websites. Users can request to summarize content, compare products, or analyze data on the page. In text fields, such as forms or emails, the “cursor chat” feature is available for editing or enhancing text with suggestions from ChatGPT.
The browser offers a “browser history” feature that allows ChatGPT to consider visited pages for personalized responses. Users can manage this memory through settings, delete, or edit data. In incognito mode, this feature is automatically disabled. By default, personal data is not used for training AI models unless the user explicitly agrees.
For ChatGPT Plus, Pro, and Business users, “agent mode” is available. In this mode, ChatGPT can perform tasks in the browser on behalf of the user, such as booking tickets, filling out forms, or editing documents. Each user remains the owner of their data and can restrict the agent’s access to certain actions or information.
Atlas can be downloaded from chatgpt.com/atlas, and upon first launch, it is easy to import bookmarks, passwords, and history from other browsers. OpenAI states that the integration of ChatGPT into the browser is intended to make daily online tasks simpler and working with information more convenient for a wide range of users.
