OpenAI has launched an app directory for ChatGPT, where users can find and use various tools without the need to install third-party programs. The company has opened submissions for developers who want to publish their own apps in this directory. New apps are reviewed for compliance with policies, security, and technical reliability before becoming available to users.
Developers can now create and submit apps that work directly in ChatGPT using the available SDK. Once approved, the app appears in the directory and can be found and used alongside other built-in tools. This applies to various areas, including productivity enhancement, creative assistants, and specialized agents for specific fields.
OpenAI has also renamed the “connectors” feature, which allowed connecting external services, to “apps.” Now all tools that integrate with ChatGPT have the same format and are located in a shared directory. This simplifies the search and use of different services for users.
The app directory is available globally through the OpenAI platform for developers, and publishing apps requires adherence to quality standards and usage rules. Monetization details have not yet been disclosed, but the application submission system already lays the groundwork for future commercial opportunities on the platform.
