OpenAI is preparing to launch its own browser with AI support, reports Reuters. The new product is expected to appear within a few weeks and will operate on the Chromium engine, which is used by Chrome, Microsoft Edge, and Opera. The browser plans to implement “Operator” — an AI agent capable of performing tasks such as booking tables, filling out forms, and other actions on behalf of the user.
Users will be able to interact directly with ChatGPT through the built-in interface without navigating to the OpenAI website. This will allow them to get answers to questions, perform searches, and complete daily tasks within a single application. Developers aim to make internet usage simpler and faster by reducing the number of site transitions.
OpenAI has been considering creating a browser since 2024 and is now accelerating the launch amid growing competition in the AI browser space. Recently, the company Perplexity presented its browser Comet with AI assistant support for users with a paid subscription. Both products use Chromium and offer AI-based search integration.
The OpenAI browser is expected to automate routine actions and simplify interaction with information on the web. Users will be able to quickly receive useful tips, fill out documents, and plan tasks with the help of built-in AI.
