Netflix has introduced a new feature for search based on generative AI, leveraging the capabilities of ChatGPT from OpenAI. Now, users can enter their preferences in natural conversational language, such as “I want something fun and light” or even more detailed requests like “I want something scary, but not too much, and a bit funny, but not too much.” This allows you to find movies and series that best match your individual wishes, without being limited to standard genre filters.
The feature is currently available to iOS users as a beta version on an opt-in basis. Some subscribers in Australia and New Zealand were the first to test the new search, and access is expected to expand to other devices soon.
During a technical event, Netflix also announced plans to use generative AI to automatically update content covers in the user’s chosen language. Other innovations include a short video feed for mobile devices and a redesigned homepage for TV viewing.
Similar search features have already appeared among competitors, including Tubi and Amazon’s Fire TV, although not all services have kept such options available permanently.
