Microsoft continues to expand the capabilities of generative AI in its products. Recently, it introduced a new model called Muse, which can create gameplay. Now, Copilot users can try out Muse through a version of Quake II generated with AI. This demonstration is part of the Copilot for Gaming initiative, which allows you to play Quake II directly in your browser.

The demo version of the game includes a basic level where players encounter blurry enemies and simple interactions. Microsoft has limited the playtime in this demo, emphasizing that this is just the beginning of Muse’s capabilities. Initially, the Muse model ran at 10 frames per second and a resolution of 300 x 180, but the latest version demonstrates significantly better performance with a resolution of 640 x 360.
Microsoft positions Muse as a model that can help developers quickly prototype games. In addition, the company is exploring ways to enhance classic games like Quake II for modern hardware. This could open up new prospects for game preservation, making them accessible on various platforms without the need for the original game engine.
