OpenAI introduced a new series of GPT-5 models, and Microsoft immediately integrated them into all its Copilot products. Now, Copilot users on Windows, Mac, Android, and iOS can use GPT-5 for free in “Smart Mode”. This feature allows AI to automatically switch between different versions of the model depending on the task type, providing quick responses or deeper analysis.
Microsoft 365 Copilot users with a license have already gained access to GPT-5. According to Microsoft, the new model better understands context, maintains focus in long conversations, and solves complex questions. In Copilot Studio, GPT-5 can now also be used to create custom agents that help automate company workflows.
Developers now have the opportunity to work with GPT-5 in GitHub Copilot, Visual Studio Code, and through Azure AI Foundry. The latter service is equipped with a built-in model router that automatically selects the optimal version of GPT-5 for a specific request or task.
GPT-5 is released in four versions and offers improvements in logical tasks, multi-step operations, and code quality. A separate version, “GPT-5-chat,” is optimized for corporate applications and supports multimodal dialogues considering the user’s context.
