Microsoft has announced new features for its Microsoft 365 Copilot tool, including two generative AI models called Researcher and Analyst. According to the company, these models are the first of their kind to give users the ability to conduct in-depth research and analytical work. Researcher is based on OpenAI’s deep research model and can perform complex multi-step tasks using access to third-party data sources such as Salesforce or ServiceNow.
The Analyst model is built on OpenAI’s o3-mini model and optimized for advanced data processing. It can turn raw data into tables, execute Python code, and provide detailed answers to queries, operating at the level of an experienced data analyst. Microsoft emphasizes that these tools can automate a variety of tasks using AI-powered workflows.
The new features will be available to Microsoft 365 Copilot users as part of an early access program launching in April. Participants in this program will be the first to access Researcher and Analyst, as well as new capabilities for creating autonomous agents in Copilot Studio.
Such tools can be useful for business users, enabling them to gain insights from various tools and applications, as well as automate complex tasks, which can significantly increase work efficiency. Microsoft notes that the main challenge remains ensuring the accuracy and reliability of these models, as they can sometimes make mistakes or base their conclusions on unreliable sources.
