Meta plans to launch a standalone app for its chatbot Meta AI. This will be part of the company’s strategy to expand its presence in the generative AI market and compete with giants such as OpenAI with ChatGPT and Google with Gemini. The new app is expected to launch as early as the second quarter of this year.
Currently, Meta AI is available to users via the website and in Meta apps, including Facebook and WhatsApp. However, a standalone app will allow Meta to attract more users who do not use these platforms. Like other similar chatbots, Meta AI can answer questions, generate images, edit photos, and perform other tasks. Recently, it received a “memory” feature to provide better recommendations.
Additionally, Meta is considering introducing a paid subscription for Meta AI, which will add new features to the assistant. Although details remain unknown for now, this move could make using Meta AI even more attractive to users.
Meta is actively working to strengthen its position in the AI field. The company plans to hold its first developer conference dedicated to AI, called LlamaCon, at the end of April. This event will be an important step in developing the ecosystem around open models such as Llama, which could compete with OpenAI.
