Meta has started implementing a new AI-based voice translation feature for users of Facebook and Instagram worldwide. Now, content creators can translate their videos from English to Spanish and vice versa, with the translated voice sounding similar to the original. Additionally, a “lip sync” feature can be activated to match the translated voice with the lip movements in the video.
The feature is available to Facebook creators with over 1,000 followers, as well as all public accounts on Instagram in countries where Meta AI operates. Before publishing a reel, creators can choose the “Translate your voice with Meta AI” option, enable translation, and optionally add “lip sync.” Videos with translations receive a corresponding AI usage label.
Before publishing, the translation and synchronization results can be reviewed, and any option can be disabled at any time. Viewers see a translation notification at the bottom of the video, and in settings, they can disable the display of translated clips in certain languages.
To facilitate working with the new feature, Meta advises creators to look at the camera, articulate clearly, and not cover their mouth while recording. The translation supports up to two speakers in a clip, who should not speak simultaneously.
In addition to automatic translation, Facebook creators can upload up to 20 custom voiceovers for a reel through the “Closed captions and translations” section in Meta Business Suite to expand their audience beyond English or Spanish-speaking countries. Meta plans to add support for new languages in the future.
