The itch.io platform, which specializes in hosting and selling indie games, has introduced a new policy for developers. Now, all creators must disclose whether they have used generative artificial intelligence in their projects. The aim of this step is to ensure transparency and give users an understanding of which content was created with the help of AI.

The platform’s founder, Leaf “Leafy” Corcoran, stated: “We have launched a new field on the editing pages called ‘Generative AI disclosure’. In this field, developers must indicate whether generative AI was used in the creation of the project, and specify which elements — graphics, sound, text, dialogue, or code.” This field has become mandatory, and assets created by AI without proper tagging will no longer be indexed on the platform.
The innovation coincides with a trend on other platforms. For example, Valve previously allowed the publication of games with AI content on Steam, provided it does not violate copyright or laws.
