Grok added the “AI Companions” feature to its iOS app, allowing users to communicate with three-dimensional animated characters using voice. Currently, users have access to two virtual interlocutors — “Ani,” an anime-inspired girl with a playful voice, and “Rudy,” a raccoon that can change moods, including the “Bad Rudy” mode. The characters respond to conversations, change backgrounds, and reach new levels of interaction, unlocking additional options during communication.

To access certain features, such as unlocking the “NSFW” mode for “Ani,” users need to reach the third level of relationship with the character. “Rudy” can activate different personalities right during the dialogue. The feature is integrated into the app’s voice mode, allowing users to engage in live communication with animated avatars in real-time.
Currently, “AI Companions” is available for “Super Grok” subscribers, who pay $30 per month. Developers have already announced the arrival of new characters, including a male anime hero named “Chad” and another female heroine. The app also features avatars marked “Coming Soon,” indicating plans to expand the feature.
Official character accounts on social media and mentions of collaboration with Animation Inc. indicate active promotion of the new feature. Grok has outpaced competitors, as Character AI and Microsoft have yet to introduce similar interactive three-dimensional avatars in their products.
The feature will interest those seeking personalized communication with virtual companions, the ability to progress through levels and unlock new modes, as well as users interested in anime, voice AI, and gamified experiences in apps.
