Google has added new tools to the Translate app for language learning using AI. Users can now take personalized language lessons that consider their proficiency level and learning goals. For example, they can select their language proficiency level and specify the purpose of their skills — for travel, communication with friends, or work.
At this stage, the feature is available to English-speaking users practicing Spanish and French, as well as Spanish, French, and Portuguese speakers learning English. After pressing the “Practice” button in the Google Translate app, users can choose a goal and scenario, such as “everyday conversations” or “family communication.” AI based on Gemini creates a lesson that matches the selected parameters.
Users can practice listening skills by listening to dialogues and marking familiar words, or work on pronunciation by receiving hints. The app tracks daily progress and helps gradually improve speaking for confident communication.
Additionally, Google Translate has received a “Live translate” feature that allows for real-time multilingual dialogue. The app creates a transcription and audio translation of your language and your interlocutor’s language. The feature is available in the USA, India, and Mexico and supports over 70 languages, including Arabic, French, Hindi, Korean, Spanish, and Tamil. The new features are already available in versions for Android and iOS.
