Google announced a series of new features for the experimental AI Mode in Search, aimed at helping users engage more deeply with information and organize learning. One of the main updates is the “Canvas” feature, which allows users to create lesson plans and gather materials in a sidebar. To start, simply click the “Create Canvas” button, after which you can gradually refine the result with additional queries. Soon, there will be an option to upload your own files, such as notes or course programs, to tailor the plan to your needs.
Another new feature is the support for uploading images and PDF files in AI Mode on desktop. Users can now ask questions about images or documents, such as lecture slides or homework, and receive detailed answers with links to sources. Google reports that support for other file formats, including those from Google Drive, will be available in the future.
The Search Live feature with video input capability is now available in the mobile version for participants of the AI Mode Labs experiment in the USA. It works in conjunction with Google Lens, allowing users to ask questions about objects in real-time through the smartphone camera. AI responses appear immediately, and users can continue the dialogue by clarifying details.
Google is also simplifying content interaction on computer screens. In Chrome, a “Ask Google about this page” button will soon appear in the address bar. After selecting the desired page fragment, you can get a brief overview from AI in the sidebar and ask additional questions via the “AI Mode” or “Dive deeper” buttons.
All new features are designed to make learning and information search more convenient and interactive. They are gradually becoming available to users participating in the Search Labs experiments in the USA and will eventually be available to a wider audience.
