Google introduced new AI-based features in the Google Photos app. Users now have the ability to transform individual photos into short videos up to six seconds long with smooth movements. This uses the Veo 2 model, and the new tool is already available on Android and iOS in the US.
Another feature coming soon is called “Remix.” It allows users to change the style of photos, for example, making them look like anime, comics, or 3D animation. This can be done with a single tap, after which the images can be immediately shared on social media.
Google notes that both features are in testing, and results may not always meet user expectations. All created videos and altered photos receive watermarks. Images are marked with a digital SynthID tag, which is invisible to the naked eye, while videos have a visual watermark.
The app will also feature a “Create” tab, where all creative tools will be gathered. It will start appearing for users in the US in August.
