Google announced an update to the editor in the “Google Photos” service to mark the platform’s tenth anniversary. The editor has received a new design and features based on generative AI, which were previously available only on Pixel devices. Now users can take advantage of “Reimagine” and “Auto Frame” features for photo editing directly in the app.
The “Reimagine” feature allows changing objects and backgrounds in photos using text prompts. For example, you can request to replace a gloomy sky with a bright blue one. “Auto Frame” offers different framing options, including cropping, expanding, or filling empty areas using generative AI.
Users will gain access to the new “AI Enhance” option, which allows quickly applying several effects, such as sharpening or object removal. You can also tap on a specific part of the photo to get recommendations for editing tools for that area, such as changing lighting or blurring the background.
The updated editor will start appearing on Android devices next month, and for iOS users, it will become available later this year. Additionally, Google has added the ability to share albums using QR codes, making it easier for friends or event participants to access shared photos, where they can not only view but also add their own images.
