Google expands access to the “Ask Photos” feature in Google Photos, which operates based on AI models Gemini. Now, this feature will be available to more users in the USA. The update allows for faster retrieval of simple queries, such as “beach” or “dogs,” as classic search results are now shown first, and then Gemini searches for photos for more complex questions in the background.
“Ask Photos” helps find images for complex queries, such as “show what I ate in Barcelona” or “find photos suitable for wallpapers.” After improvements, the tool responds faster to simple queries, and users do not need to switch between different search modes.
The feature remains experimental and is only available to users in the USA who are over 18 years old and have a Google account with the English language. Users can disable Gemini in the Google Photos settings if they do not wish to use this feature.
Google notes that it has listened to feedback and implemented changes to make photo search faster and more convenient. There is no official launch date for “Ask Photos” in other countries yet.
