Google has introduced a new feature in Google Photos. From now on, the app will indicate when an image has been edited using AI tools such as Magic Editor, Magic Eraser, and Zoom Enhance. This innovation will provide users with information about how exactly the photo was changed and will be displayed alongside other photo metadata.

The new labels in Google Photos will also display edits involving combinations of different shots, for example for the Best Take and Add Me features available on Pixel 8 and Pixel 9.
According to Google engineer John Fisher, the metadata used for this feature is created according to the standards of the International Press Telecommunications Council (IPTC). “This work is not yet complete,” Fisher noted. “We will continue to gather feedback and look for additional solutions to improve transparency.”
