Google has started implementing a new feature called “Video Overviews” in the NotebookLM service. It allows users to receive short narrated videos that explain the content of materials saved in the notebook. AI automatically creates slides with voiceovers using images, diagrams, quotes, and figures from your documents. This helps to easily grasp complex topics and better understand abstract concepts.
The feature works in English, but Google promises to add support for other languages. Users can control video playback, such as rewinding 10 seconds forward or backward and changing the viewing speed. In the settings, you can specify the target audience, educational goals, or focus on specific topics.
Google has also updated the Studio tab in NotebookLM. Now, each notebook can store multiple results of the same type, such as several “Video Overviews” or “Audio Overviews” for different course sections or different teams. The Studio tab has received a new look with four tiles for quickly creating audio overviews, video overviews, mind maps, and reports.
These updates will be available to users within a few weeks. NotebookLM continues to expand its capabilities for working with personal materials, which is especially useful for learning, preparing presentations, and creating educational materials.
