Google is testing a new level of “Personal intelligence” for the NotebookLM service. The latest versions show this option in the settings and separately for each notebook. The system allows NotebookLM to learn from previous chats with the user to better understand their goals and adapt to their work style.
Users receive a field for their own description in a profile format, which is pre-filled with a typical example. For instance, it could be a researcher in the field of AI and machine learning who values concise and technical explanations with code. It is currently unknown whether this information is taken from the Gemini profile, from past chats in the notebook, or if it is just a template.
The same settings appear both for the entire service and for each notebook individually. This allows different notebooks to have different behaviors depending on the tasks. If the feature is launched, NotebookLM will be able to adapt more quickly to the user’s personal preferences regarding tone, depth, and format of responses.
Such personalization will be useful for those who conduct multiple research projects or work on different topics within one account. Each notebook will be able to better match a specific task, and working with AI will become more convenient and efficient.
