Google has announced the launch of mobile apps for its AI-powered assistant — NotebookLM, which will be available for Android and iOS on May 20. For the first time since its launch in 2023, the service will be accessible not only via browser but also as standalone apps, allowing users to work with notes and materials anytime, anywhere.
NotebookLM helps students, professionals, and researchers process complex information with features such as smart summaries, the ability to ask questions about uploaded documents, and the creation of audio overviews — short podcasts based on your materials. Each answer includes source links, enabling quick fact-checking.
In the new apps, users will be able to create new notebooks, view existing ones, upload documents and links, and listen to created audio overviews offline. Tablet owners will benefit from a split panel, allowing simultaneous work with the chat assistant and the list of sources. The apps support background audio playback and push notifications.
Those interested can already pre-order in the App Store or pre-register in Google Play, after which the app will automatically download to the device on launch day. Users also have access to the extended NotebookLM Plus version as part of Google One AI Premium, which offers even more features for working with audio overviews, queries, and sources, as well as the ability to customize response styles and share notebooks with a team.
