Google has added a new feature to its AI assistant for notes and research NotebookLM — users can now customize the style of “Audio Overview” podcasts created based on their documents. Available formats include “Deep Dive,” where two virtual hosts discuss the topic in detail, “Brief,” which quickly summarizes the main ideas, “Critique,” which includes analysis and advice, and “Debate,” where hosts offer different perspectives on the material.
Users can choose not only the style but also the duration of the podcast and specify which parts of the uploaded materials to focus on. Additionally, NotebookLM has received new voices for audio formats, which has been one of the most anticipated features among users. This allows for more diverse and personalized material narration.
The “Audio Overview” feature helps transform large volumes of information, such as summaries, into convenient-to-listen-to podcasts that can be used for learning or meeting preparation. All new formats are available to users in any language, and Google reports that the update has already begun rolling out.
NotebookLM previously received the “Video Overviews” feature, which allows creating short video presentations from notes, PDF files, and images. Additionally, the app now includes themed notebooks from various authors and organizations, as well as separate versions for Android and iOS.
