Google is starting to roll out the Google Home extension in the Gemini app for all users. Over the coming weeks, the feature will become available on Android and iOS. It allows you to control your smart home in a more conversational style. Gemini replaces Google Assistant and offers new capabilities, such as managing lighting, climate control, and media devices.
Users can control devices like smart bulbs, thermostats, TVs, and speakers using natural language. For example, you can say “The sun is too bright in the living room” to close smart blinds. The new feature also allows for complex requests, such as “Turn on the light by the armchair, but dim the kitchen lamp.”
The extension allows you to control “non-sensitive” devices, such as smart lights, from your phone’s lock screen. Additionally, you can adjust volume, pause, and resume media playback on connected devices.
Gemini automatically opens the Google Home app for security-related actions, such as managing cameras. Users can perform complex tasks using a single account for Gemini and Google Home. The extension is already available for testing, and its rollout is ongoing.
