Google is actively working on integrating its generative AI into various platforms, including Android Auto. Recently, specialists from Android Authority managed to activate the chatbot and Gemini Live voice mode on an Android smartphone simulating a car dashboard. Although the testing was not conducted in a real car, it provided insight into the capabilities of the new assistant.
During the experiment, Gemini demonstrated its conversational abilities by providing detailed and engaging answers to questions about the weather and landmarks such as the Taj Mahal. This was a significant departure from the usual short responses of Google Assistant. However, when it came to planning trips or searching for dining venues, the assistant was not particularly effective. The answers were generic and did not take the user’s geolocation into account, making them less useful.
Despite this, Gemini handled simple tasks well, such as playing music from Spotify, demonstrating its ability to perform Google Assistant functions.
The integration of Gemini into Android Auto is only a matter of time, but specific dates are still unknown. Despite certain shortcomings, the potential of the new AI assistant is significant, and its further development promises many exciting opportunities for users.
