Google is planning major updates for its Gemini app in 2025. One of the key changes will be a redesigned interface. Instead of a full-screen display, Gemini will now be reduced to a panel with several buttons, such as voice input and the Gemini Live feature. This will allow users to interact with the app more quickly and conveniently. The official announcement is expected at the Galaxy S25 event, with widespread rollout planned nearly a year after Gemini’s launch.
Gemini 2.0, which has been in testing since December, promises significant improvements. In particular, the Flash Experimental version, aimed at developers, will become available in January. Consumers are expected to receive a chat-optimized version soon after. Additionally, Gemini 2.0 Experimental Advanced will deliver enhanced performance for complex tasks such as programming and solving mathematical problems.
Updates will also affect the Gemini Live feature, which will receive support for the Astra project. Users will be able to use their camera to interact with their surroundings. There will also be an option to share the phone screen and ask questions about the displayed content. These capabilities are expected to become available in the first half of 2025.
Another new feature is a travel planner that will allow users to create personalized itineraries taking into account flight times, food preferences, and visits to local museums. Users will be able to edit routes visually or via chat. However, this feature has not yet been released, although it was announced in May last year.
Google is also working to make Gemini a full-fledged replacement for Google Assistant. New features, such as the ability to interact with PDF documents, are already available to Gemini Advanced users. There are plans to expand voice command capabilities, including smart home control and song recognition.
