Google has introduced three new translation tools powered by generative AI Gemini, now available as an experiment in Google Labs. The new service, called “Little Language Lessons,” is designed to help with communication while traveling and learning languages in real-life situations.
The first tool, “Tiny Lesson,” offers a selection of useful vocabulary, phrases, and grammar tips for any situation. The user selects the desired language, describes an action or goal, and the service provides translations of key words, phrases, and possible usage options. Audio pronunciation is also available to help memorize pronunciation better. A range of languages is supported, including Arabic, Chinese, English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese, Spanish, and others.
The second tool, “Slang Hang,” introduces users to common expressions, idioms, and colloquial vocabulary through AI-generated dialogues between native speakers. The dialogue format helps users better understand how slang is used in real life. For many languages, you can choose regional dialects and listen to phrase pronunciations.
The third tool, “Word Cam,” lets you photograph surrounding objects with your phone and learn their names in two languages. By tapping on an object in the photo, the user receives a description with adjectives and example sentences for communication. This feature also supports listening to translations.
You can access “Little Language Lessons” via the Google Labs page by signing into your Google account. The tools are available on both computers and mobile devices, making them convenient for use while traveling or learning a language in everyday situations.
