Google announced a major update for its generative AI model Gemini, expanding its availability across various Google ecosystem devices. This year, Gemini will appear on smartwatches with WearOS, allowing users to have natural conversations with the watch and receive assistance without a smartphone. Features include setting reminders, getting cooking or workout tips when hands are busy.
On the automotive platform Android Auto, Gemini will also be implemented instead of Google Assistant. The update will allow finding places by detailed description, such as “charging station on the way to the post office, near the park,” as well as summarizing and translating text messages. Users will be able to engage in dialogues about current events, receive personalized news selections, or search for answers to their questions while on the move.
Gemini will also appear on Google TV, providing voice interaction on the big screen. The model will help with finding movie and series recommendations based on specified criteria, and will allow finding content by description, not just keywords.
Additionally, Google, in collaboration with Samsung, is launching a platform that combines Gemini with Android XR for augmented reality devices. With the release of Samsung’s first headset, users will be able to receive assistance from Gemini in an XR environment, where information will be displayed around the user. This platform is also planned to be used on other devices — headsets, glasses, and similar gadgets.
