Today, Google announced the rollout of a new feature in its generative AI Gemini. From now on, users with free accounts can upload documents directly from the web version, as well as through apps on Android and iOS. This capability, previously available only to Advanced subscribers, is now open to all users, allowing them to upload multiple Google Docs, PDF, and Word documents using Gemini 2.0 Flash.

Users can upload documents both from the web browser and mobile devices, as well as through the Google Drive file manager. This enables quick summaries, personalized feedback, and actionable tips. On Android devices, the file upload feature unlocks the “Ask about this PDF” option in Files by Google and “Talk about it” on the Pixel 9 and Galaxy S24/S25 series.
Currently, free users cannot upload spreadsheets or code files—this still requires a Gemini Advanced subscription. It’s also not specified how many documents can be uploaded at once, but it is known that subscribers can upload up to one million tokens. To get started, simply tap the “plus” in the “Ask Gemini” field, where you’ll see options to upload files from Drive, as well as from your camera and gallery.
Gemini continues to evolve, providing users with new tools for convenient document management and access to valuable information. This opens up broader opportunities for interacting with documents, making the process more interactive and accessible to a wide audience.
