Together with the public release of the new version of the Imagen 3 image generator, Google has rolled out an update for its Gemini app on Android, which has significantly changed its interface.
The updated interface is noticeably different from the previous version. The developers have removed the carousel with prompts that used to occupy the top of the screen, as well as the “Chats and Gems” section. Instead, there is now a minimalist page with a user greeting and a small chat icon that allows you to quickly access your conversation history.

The changes also affected the bottom part of the screen. Instead of a large input panel, there is now a compact bar with the text “Type, speak, or share a photo with Gemini.” The microphone and camera buttons have been merged into one, and a “Gemini Live” button has been added next to it, making access to voice and visual features even more convenient.
It’s clear that Google is trying to make the app more user-friendly for newcomers who are just getting acquainted with AI-based chatbots. The simpler interface should help Gemini compete with ChatGPT and CoPilot, which can sometimes seem complicated for beginners. The new version of Gemini is more reminiscent of the classic Google search page: lots of free space and a single large text input panel.
The update is gradually becoming available to all users of the Gemini app on Android. It is being rolled out as a server-side update, so the new design is appearing for different users gradually. It’s important to note that the update currently only applies to the Android version of the app, and there is no information yet about plans to update the iOS version.
Users who have already received the update note that the new interface really does look more modern and convenient. This is especially noticeable on Google Pixel devices, where the updated Gemini looks organic and integrates perfectly with the overall device design. Many users welcome the removal of the prompt carousel, as it was rarely used.
