Google DeepMind has introduced new capabilities for music creation using generative AI. The main highlight of the update is “MusicFX DJ”—a tool that enables real-time music generation via text prompts. This sets it apart from traditional DJ tools, which work with existing tracks.
“MusicFX DJ” leverages two core technical innovations: an offline generative music model adapted for real-time streaming, and a system that combines multiple text prompts to control the music’s style. Users can now download 60-second clips of their creations and share sessions with others.
In collaboration with six-time GRAMMY Award winner Jacob Collier, the team developed intuitive controls that allow users to manipulate instruments, create musical transitions, and control tempo. Jacob noted that “MusicFX DJ” makes it possible to create music using emotions, abstract imagery, and even invented words.
