Google has introduced over 30 new AI tools for education, making them free for all Google Workspace for Education users. The main innovation is the integration of Gemini into Google Classroom, where a special tab has appeared with features for creating lesson plans, math assignments, generating letters, and other materials. Teachers can also create their own “Gems” — personalized AI agents that help students understand complex topics or receive additional support.
Google has also expanded access to its video editor Google Vids, now available to all educators and students with a Workspace for Education account. This tool allows creating educational videos, video reports, and presentations. Integration with Classroom and Drive makes it easy to use existing materials when creating videos.
To enhance learning efficiency, Google added the NotebookLM tool, which enables the creation of interactive learning guides and audio reviews based on materials uploaded by educators. Students can use this service even if they are under 18. NotebookLM supports over 50 languages and allows obtaining short audio and video explanations in seconds.
Updated administration capabilities give schools and educators more control over who has access to AI tools and ensure user data protection. New features for tracking student performance, analytics, and managing Chromebook devices during lessons have appeared. With the “Class tools” feature, teachers can send students videos, articles, presentations, or tests directly to their screens and restrict access to external tabs.
Most new features are available for free, but some additional capabilities require a subscription to Google Workspace for Education Plus or the Teaching and Learning Add-on. According to Google, using AI already helps teachers save up to six hours a week during lesson planning and conducting.
