During a recent conversation , Alphabet and Google CEO Sundar Pichai stated that the company views the introduction of new generative AI-based products as the beginning of the next stage in the development of digital platforms. According to him, “we are advancing to a new level of fundamental AI research and implementing it into products that become accessible to a much wider range of users.” In particular, Pichai noted the launch of AI Mode for all users in the US, as well as updates to the Gemini, Veo 3, and Imagen models, which demonstrate the company’s expanding capabilities in generative technologies.
Pichai emphasized that a new wave of AI applications is forming — from tools for programmers to corporate solutions, such as automated report generation in medical institutions. He believes that the next three to five years will be a period of significant growth in the number of products based on generative AI, and these products will be available to a broader audience than ever before.
Special attention was given to the impact of AI on the web space and interaction with publishers. Following the announcement of AI Mode, the News Media Alliance criticized this move, calling it “theft” due to the use of content without economic return for publishers. In response, Pichai emphasized: “AI Mode includes links to sources, and we remain committed to ensuring users have access to the breadth of the web.” He also added that Google continues to direct more traffic to various sites, and the quality of such traffic is increasing.
