A new Menlo Ventures report states that the number of AI users worldwide has reached 1.8 billion, with about 600 million interacting with such tools daily. However, only 3% of people remain paying users, and the main part of the revenue in the consumer AI sector goes to OpenAI.
Image creation features and other creative tools are particularly popular, where users show a greater willingness to pay. Products with image, audio, and design generation capabilities are rapidly gaining popularity. Meanwhile, areas such as physical and mental health remain the least explored — only 14% of respondents use AI for health information, and even fewer for nutrition tracking.
Millennials lead among AI users, using these tools daily more often than Generation Z. Parents are particularly active in using AI: 79% of them regularly turn to digital assistants, especially for learning, organizing notes, and managing childcare.
The report emphasizes that consumer AI most often helps with tasks related to everyday matters, such as writing emails or making to-do lists. At the same time, researchers see a large space for creating new products that can better meet user needs and encourage them to pay for advanced features.
